Why Didn't I Think of That?: A "To-Do" List for New Entrepreneurs Arriving in Boston

  • Jon Smirl · 2 months ago
Are all of your MA VC blogs in Larry's Google bundle?

    http://www.google.com/reader/bundle/user%2F0741...

You could add bundle feeds for the meetups and send meeting reminders via RSS.

Don't feel too bad about the preschools we can afford them and we still can't get admitted. We've been applying for three years now. Probably wasted $10,000 on application fees.

Most are, but the goal wasn't so much to include everyone as to have a somewhat curated list that's also manageable. Thanks!

    Rob,

Great list. You can find the majority of those items and much much more at a site I recently launched: www.GreenhornConnect.com It's community based, so feel free to explore it and add any content that's missing.

    Rob,

I think you're missing 3 key events for young people:

    1) DartBoston (www.DartBoston.com) is the premier event for young entrepreneurs. You will not find a more energized, friendly group of young people in Boston than there.
    2) Boston Young Entrepreneurs (www.bostonyoungentrepreneurs.com) is the city government's efforts to help young entrepreneurs.
    3) Tech Tuesday (http://techtues091110.eventbrite.com/) is the collection of all fans and entrepreneurs in technology gathering monthly

All these events are free and are some of my favorites as a young entrepreneur.

Thanks! I hadn't heard of DartBoston. Sounds like a great community.

You should come check it out. They have events every Thursday night. Everyone is welcome.

Great list, Rob (and you're kind to insert me)! Don't forget Johnny's in Newton (best challah french toast in the country), www.StayInMA.com gives students scholarships to attend events, and BBJ, Mass High Tech and VentureFizz are good resources as well.

How could I forget StayInMa? Thanks Jeff.

Great edited list. To the places in #4 I'd add the Starbucks in Kendall Marriott.

Thanks. On #4, there was a MHT article that came out today on a similar topic: http://www.masshightech.com/stories/2009/10/19/...

    1. Look for events/forums/panels on your industry by TiE, MIT Enterprise Forum and Harvard Business School.

    2. Try to get students at Harvard and MIT undergrad and business schools to work on your projects for credit or learning experience :)

For technical founders, check out http://bostonrb.org (Boston Ruby Group) and the Boston Javascript Meetup Group (http://javascript.meetup.com/2/) ... A complete listing of Boston User Groups is at http://www.bugc.org/

Rob, great and useful list. My only gripe is with the "Entrepreneurs, VCs, and Academics" section. Most are great, but a few have not posted in months. Plus you have very few entrepreneurs. And all are men! Check out the founder of Daily Grommet (who I know quite well)

That's why we need sites like GreenhornConnect.com. This way, everyone helps build the list (anyone can add to the site) and people can see what all is out there, inventor, entrepreneur, investor, etc, active or otherwise. They can then decide what to check out.

Blog List is short now, but can always grow: http://greenhornconnect.com/content/entrepreneu...

Desmond, thanks for the comment. I think most of the people I added do post on their blog or twitter regularly. Maybe not as active on one or the other though. As for the female entrepreneurs comment - that's definitely true. This is a skewed list. I'd love more suggestions on that end. I know Jean Hammond if quite visible in the local community, but I don't know if she has an active blog or Twitter presence.
